My "Station 9"

Station 9 is the busiest fire station in the US. They are responsible for the area called skid row. This is their story.
We are currently working very hard to produce this as a series. This blog is dedicated to that struggle.

Watch the Trailer

This horse aint dead yet...

Although it has been a while since I have posted anything to this blog, that does not necessarily mean that there has not been any progress.

Last year I went back to the station to meet the new firefighters and get a better idea of how it has changed, or not changed.  I shot some footage, learned quite a lot as to how things are working.

This is a labor of love really as I am still trying to get many other projects off the ground as well.  Station 9 however is up there in my priorities.

Here is a small update:

Around fall I was introduced to another group of producers that had shown some interest in the show.  They were incredibly excited about the trailer, who isn't. They immediately went into overtime trying to see how they could sell it.  I decided to let them.  Need less to say they very quickly came back with some bad "news."  I put the quotes because there really is nothing new about what they told me.

Characters, Characters, Characters....

This is what they tell me over and over.  "Yes," I say.  I know.  But this is not a bunch of angry over privileged Jersey kids or OC housewives.  These are firefighters.  We may or may not have to deal with the cards that we are dealt. We can work to gain the different types that may be present there already. Such as The Recruit, The Veteran, The Young single guy, The Family Man, etc.

They wanted me to shoot more, and re edit, bla bla bla.  Honestly if someone can't get it they will never get it.  I wonder if shows like Pawn Stars went through this?

Now more recently, I have heard back from my old agent.  He, or I should say, his assistant called me after nearly a year and said there is some renewed interest.  I held my emotion and was more than happy to hear her out.  I hold my emotion because getting excited over this is useless.  I have been there before and it is an exercise in futility.  My brother, who is my biggest fan on this said that he wont get excited until he sees it himself on TV.  And I agree.

Last year he lost his job as a pilot.  He was totally in the dumps.  He was worried and scared that he might lose his house and have to move.  I told him that he needed to imagine what he wanted.  He needed to evoke those things that he truly would like in his life.  We made an agreement that he would be positive about what he wanted and that it would happen.  Needless to say a few months later he was working again in a better job and for more money. Although I guess he should have been more specific about location, he's now flying someplace over the Afghan desert....

But my point is that I told him what I thought that I had been doing myself.  I have tried to be so incredibly positive about this project.  I close my eyes and imagine creating the show.  I day dream about driving through LA and seeing the billboards. I make calls, work on meeting new people and try to stay in touch and maintain a relationship with the LAFD and the PIO (public information officer). I continuously investigate new camera technologies and try to better enhance my plans for the show.  By now no one, and I mean no one, understands and has planned for this like me.

However I still get disappointed.  I often wonder if my time could be better spent on other projects or even in another field.

Who knows what this year will bring.  Perhaps this is the year.  I want to say that this is the year that I finally drive down Sunset and see that billboard, or actually watch an episode with my brother.  Although I don't drink, I'm sure there will be champagne there as well.

Again thank you for your interest and please keep the faith.  Also pass this blog along to anyone and everyone.

  1. I was a FF for the USFS and have been praying that this will fly!!! Broadcast Co. need to open their eyes and see what the country should be exposed to. People need to see this, they need to have a better understanding of what goes on around them, and especially what these men and women go through on a daily basis when they head to the office. Thanks for all your hard work Adelante Films and you definitely have my support. Sean

  2. As a person who apires to becoming a firefighter one day. The trailer always gets me motivated to pursue the field of working for the LAFD. So I find it really difficult to accept the idea of nobody picking this up to produce into a show. I honestly cannot believe there are so many reality shows that have negative perspectives and connotations that are aired instead of this creative one. I will always be a fan and have not lost faith in your effort. Fight On.

  3. This is very inspiring, hopefully this will get aired soon. I've watched the trailer so many times. I think with all the budget cuts in not only the state, but with the fire department as well, it will open the public's eyes and show that these men and women are true heroes and we can't just blow them off like we are trying to do. Hopefully, this will inspire many younger men and women to try and join the fire department too, and to put their lives in danger in order to save someone else's.

  4. This is so disappointing!!!! I WANT TO SEE THIS AS A REALITY TV SERIES, TOO! These people who aren't picking this show up are insane. Lack of characters??? What! C'mon...this is getting ridiculous.

Keep up the good fight! WE fans are here to support you and your amazing project until it's finally realized.

If you wanna move on to something else at least make a video for us fans. I dont care about the quality just do it!!!!! I need to see the footage, be on the calls, meet the guys. Its better then nothing!! Thanks
